I've just been recruited to sell goods at Anime Fest Asia this weekend, and it's with none other than the KKnM crew! KKnM's a really popular store in Singapore for anime/Japanese goods, and they're also the official distributor in S.E. Asia for Cospa, a major Japanese entity for licensed anime goods. I'm gonna be selling Cospa's Resinya! line of doll products at the Genesis Frontier booth, plus the Obitsu bodies that go perfectly with them.

There'll be several lovely lasses available, but here's a preview of Tamaki Kousaka from "To Heart 2". I hear she's really popular, lol.

Resinya! I can say that on my blog, right? XD

Buying a complete set consisting of: a) one Resinya! Portrait Collection, b) one corresponding costume set (includes socks and shoes), and c) one Obitsu body will get you a sweet discount only during this event. The Obitsu doll bodies will also be sold separately for around $29-$30 (prices also to be confirmed).

This is one of those rare times you'll see these products sold locally, so come by and take a look! I know I'm gonna be browsing through the stuff I'm selling, hehe. There will be several Resinya! dolls on display if you wanna check out the quality in-person, plus I'm bringing a couple of my own dolls, one of them being my custom Akiyama Mio from K-On!

*I should also mention my friend Mori will be selling some doll items under his ShowsDoll banner (he has hand-sewn/knitted clothing and Azone merchandise for both 1/6 and ball jointed dolls) at the KKnM/Genesis Frontier booth as well. Edo-Kimekomi doll making workshopHey guyz! I've just heard from a friend about a Japanese-doll making workshop at the Singapore Philatelic Museum on the 14th of Nov. It's a rare opportunity to learn from master artisans from Japan and view a collection of 400 Edo-Kimekomi dolls handcrafted by these artists 1. Interestingly, each of these dolls requires an average of 2 years to make 2, but we'll apparently learn how to make them in under 2 hours, lol.

The workshop also seems to be limited to 40 people, so I hope to book places as soon as possible after asking around a bit. Feel free to let me know if you're interested or have already confirmed your attendance. ^^) v

*Entry to the museum and the doll exhibition is free. The doll making workshop costs $5 per person.

Singapore Philatelic Museum's
"Nov - Dec '09 Holiday Programmes"

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 283px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhpocR0ZlrPuHqm0yyJWBml93wOwQ3Rydr1IRokmVEyKoomYUGiQ9GLrGAFElZ4XXdCLgOa1Y0nPSOs6amlrZ-fXxO7UJ4IuGrSY7EfRGgiJFvLY9r2F18Sv7RPIYgYCnkyydfbtGitCYS/s400/singaporephilatelicmuseum.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400638576595425586" />

Thanks for the heads up, Iwa!Mizuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08229978135801606049noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8142373698876430406.post-22067527046444210012009-10-31T23:59:00.008+08:002009-11-02T02:05:27.460+08:00A Halloween tribute to zombie movies, Biohazard, weird tastes<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigwJMhR_pbvzB4c46KI_TZs6q8qfcblMLlImXtE6g5xmQMwQzaVhnB7sZWZT54HGn1Qa0cqqYBsrsLkDKRUJtjyh8IszWOR3rdUMOdKK3gyRtFDPo6jdq5DrvEMnvBgN36p8cH8zfBgrmE/s400/Zombie_attack_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398857491066224978" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3VWGacrb2o5LQdibx_kKEkIhjUiU5_0MkH8v14wqnI5MP6zp7R_gpVSXpOOuv6QcWc5SsjpANcgHW3wd4WQxIyLKONP8KwFUBY77oVQifCsaZSoLQRupjY7F2Wp3V9HmTmeJxXCtFTmdp/s400/Zombie_attack_05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398857481178845970" />

I'm not the best photographer (granted I'm so cheap I'm using a mobile phone camera, ha ha), but here are some snaps from a 1/6 zombie photo shoot we did last weekend. I'm sure some of you guys are feeling me. Especially with Valve's Left 4 Dead becoming just about the most popular LAN game ever. Seriously, it's the reason many guys finally moved on from Counterstrike (I've decided that males don't mind getting repeatedly killed by headshots as much as females), and I've never seen an FPS result in such a huge influx of female gamers before. I'm glad more girls are playing video games, because we can kick butt as much as guys when we do. Which reminds me, I should steel myself and play my copy of Dead Space one of these days. >__>

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikxagYbGGICQDtqDGtE1lCvg_bB5hjB_xYHA7n8CIoclnT4xPRNBSNYCd3d8oRnIfQRkU-foUYoRa9HQHwhzCwpCnoci-4RqLTzHDhQE9odPpsGkZb-pP1_mDy0kw-BRzM1vXMytVuBFMB/s400/Zombie_attack_06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398857477518047506" />

>>> Zombie attack Pure Neemo style

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixp6kOVSM_dY1plBfGhHxL2Kpf_B8j0AExqtZs5YobCf6fDWN0LijYgjhP5f5EMwIDKSuS-uGhO9957Dr-zgJs1KyQPqaM3Y0reM_juwIPVi5yRNE2ALL8ti7sJxZbwsEE1uc3q0OeGOUM/s400/PN_zombie_attack_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398869847192193314" />
It's always a good idea not to get surrounded

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxNvCYoPiirjm7Sxc9IyAcz0BZVr5Bx_ovqhoGOgNHp-tpqI3FPTAVPBt1d93VE4CVtPUek9D4cLSQUhMGTyyV9jsavtSxCT1scbD2PdC_GBVq8smrovJeI1r3O8itwh2evBXeb1g_cjIo/s400/PN_zombie_attack_04.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398869262379757858" />
Attack when you find an opening!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEitp0RRNb2T5RUYH4iOA2lrRz_sW_5kajQFzTmOT0T-sERZMOGS6fi_oiPK5xDItWPT3ENy91LtTPEAl6ph83V1YOSVNr9fJ3nA-JpPEIsfzdpJMEjEgG6e2twDUXYzwzdOvEQLGNX7szO-/s400/PN_zombie_attack_05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5398869164908516370" />
Take that you Barbie-armed zombie lady!

I'm still going through my photos trying to dig up good shots, so check back. So yea, we did a photo shoot with zombies, and I dressed a couple of my Pure Neemos in Halloween costumes. 8D

Recreation-wise, it's a shame Halloween is mainly a non-event in Singapore. Ya know, minus the clubs that have Halloween costume parties, there's not much else available to the public. So what my boyfriend and I did was go to the Science Centre for their "Haunted Halloween Nights". Boy was it exciting! The Science Centre staff and folks from the Asia Paranormal Investigators (API) were really sporting and put on a great show. I mean, everyone from families with kids, teenagers and adults had a rip roaring time. I think so cuz I heard many of them scream. Here's a custom I did a couple of months back but didn't get around to take photos of. He's a bad-ass, almost invincible swordsman known as "Manji" (which also happens to be the Japanese name for the swastika on his back - note that the swastika has origins in ancient Eastern culture and religion, and should not be confused with the version perverted by the Nazis). Manji is the main character from the manga "Mugen no Jyunin" which is also published in English as "Blade of the Immortal" by Dark Horse. The manga, written and illustrated by Hiroaki Samura, started in 1994 and is still ongoing, while an anime series was shown (and concluded?) in 2008.

More pics after the cut.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKNd_Ef2KARaDh8jXAj0vaQKmenJ8VpFnFApTmMM2IbjV6SbujjRG5IzccYW8TVc3KAp5eOevLzE6lUkUDTzl5Cc9Y3ogBJqEO88lkuQ0e2GCwF4G2ZEfYQI-MEqiWOx6b_nb4aeUjpFwW/s400/Manji_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387942960825838082" />

I've been a fan of the art (few manga artists give as much life-like detail to hands and feet as Hiroaki Samura does) and story for years, so I really wanted to do Manji justice and create something better than the official figure released years back. There's still lots of room for improvement though. His hair has too much volume, the clothing could drape better, and I'm not crazy about the exposed ankle joint on the Hot Toys body. Fact is I haven't painted scars on his chest yet because I'm uncertain about sticking with this body for Manji. I didn't sculpt the head either (it's from DID's Date Masamune figure), so it's not a perfect likeness but at least he's got a head full of "real" hair, lol.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqAEKw-61JRrNEjG1h9eSOYdXWAhyphenhyphen2F2tLNynyq0NRelfnVaH9dAreddSoYPK2eMdm6Txl9ycMRQ9A2jPR0CKPuKTjnuAlrQWAcBBu2PbFfkmjErdNRyANYDkSq_lDq4upMEsKItUChf2F/s400/Manji_06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387971681566105506" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_zdjgOeTkgJqxOl2SBjh5QZygzUtW2wHMVzh_Fx4mFAMjDqWJwYcD9TKBAeyzc5552A-73JrWLTEGlEMhFRbv4DYhnV5ahgw0RtOAXA7Icwe8YXmicAj9ur7odsxl2USTZ17zS3Gu6uej/s400/Manji_07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5387971688811004162" />

All the weapons I've used are from the excellent set of official Mugen no Jyunin 1/6 miniature weapons. Haha. Anyway, it's been less than 24 hours since I've seen District 9, and I'm in peak condition to gawk over movie-related collectibles.

But what?! There isn't anything official yet? Then I'll just briefly review this custom made Prawn Mech some very talented and enterprising guy made and sold for US$5,300 on eBay.

I gotta admit the artist did a remarkable job creating the D9 robot, using a Transformers toy as the base and applying expert paint and weathering effects. Although you can't pose her arms and legs "realistically" because the bendy doll articulation is far too simplified, you can remove Coraline's faceplate and adjust the eyes, or maybe swap expressions with the other three versions. I wouldn't mind collecting all of them just to try that out. :)

This version of Coraline wearing the sweater with stars was actually a SDCC-exclusive, but I was really fortunate to purchase her from someone in Singapore. He's a friendly pop-culture collector who runs the action figure section in a store called "Titanium" (level B4 of ION Orchard). It's been a popular theme among filmmakers who've created several adaptations over the years, the most famous one probably being Disney's animated movie. In the near future we'll be seeing "Alice" as imagined by Tim Burton and Marilyn Manson. No prizes for guessing which version ends up darker, lol.

Not surprisingly, "Alice" is also a popular theme for dolls. Here I've used a couple of Alice outfits by Azone on my Pure Neemo Aika as well as on a hybrid doll that was created recently. She's a Little Pullip head (from "Fantastic Alice") altered to fit on a 21cm Obitsu white skin tone body.

More pics after the cut.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEzSFL03MiogS6Jv9e-WV-9ay5wpnohqODB7j8OYvd1t0xUTNCgkjhyphenhyphenOvHNzZw2z3cPQNdhFkFqVY1boia1RWw0NM07b6DIWzzOq1PPpPyK1gqlrT-YXH-xkbUBev4_vIY8QlYxKgMdzu1/s400/PN_Alice_duo_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317497266205858146" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyRBhSOuUDSc5otB1rejw_7hDkCKEKy_zDynIC7zZBs642Zdk10zfFOdyWh8a7jryrCh4BhVJxsMe6uMhEadu4ayVn6w0K_BZHkQFzmupw03CUHt-lDBoCsZIebo1-jvB8I8h3GUwmqvoc/s400/PN_Alice_Aika_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317497267928013474" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL2mcLF06mjWGe__PqsRDZFi2MZm125L36UIJS5kb3nG8-xIPwsMvzQsj_jLjJ1J93NEyN7m_Nuq9l9Kti6rNaIrdk_BhyphenhyphenboJG4jMa3tukqGmlpiJAnJYZ-EjylWF73zf10vb3ZoidSeXU/s400/PN_Alice_Pullitsu_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317497261185077746" />

The Little Pullip neck hole is really tiny, and it takes quite a bit of drilling through hard plastic to enlarge it to fit the Obitsu neck joint. The show centers around the misfit Dr. House, famed for solving medical cases other doctors can't and being a pain in the ass to work with. He often acts like a jerk towards his patients and co-workers, but many fans of the show like myself find him immensely likable. That probably has a lot to do with that acerbic wit of his. ;)

Anyhow, here's a custom of Dr. House that I finally put together. The cane was hand-made, the clothing's from a couple of suit sets Ken and Shaun got for me in HK. Thanks so much guys! Not because I felt good after the movie - it's a tragedy from the start till the end, but because the songs and theatrics were grade A entertainment. I can point out the one about turning people into pies that's to me worth the price of admission. :P

Mr Todd is an interesting character, so I had high hopes for the figure. Medicom once again chose to use their short[er] RAH body - so he's dwarfed by Hot Toys' Jack Sparrow which is a shame (use taller bodies already Medicom!). The clothes are decent - he's got three layers of clothing on with hardly any puffiness, and his only "accessories" are an extra grasping hand, and two razors - one opened and one folded.

While the headsculpt isn't nearly 100% accurate - I think the cheekbones need slightly more definition, it's probably an improvement on Medicom's part. I'm spoiled by Hot Toys' sophisticated painting jobs (who isn't?), so it's easy for anything else to pale in comparison. Still, it's decent enough. Collectors don't really want to complain when they've shelled out big bucks for a fig - they want reasons to love it. I'll just pretend I do. XD

*Alright, I love my Sweeney Todd fig. I'm just afraid he'll break my heart like Peter did. I've never posed him very much and always kept him in an upright position, but yesterday I noticed that his legs looked rather funny (he stood lopsided). After taking a closer look, I realised his right leg was so floppy it just kind of dangled in his pants. This is what I saw after removing his jeans - the right leg had broken off at the hip/pelvic joint. God darn it.

I know it's unrealistic to expect a plastic "toy" to be unbreakable, but a cursory google search reveals that it's not all that uncommon with Medicom bodies. Unlucky people paid good money only to open a brand-new figure out of a box, and find that a limb's already broken. What gives Medicom? I have 4 Medi figures, the most recent being Sweeney Todd (which I'll post photos off later), and I hope they don't suffer Peter Parker's fate. It's not easy at all to get replacement Medicom RAH bodies, cuz unlike HT's True Types, I've never seen them readily available in stores.

More pics of the crime scene after the jump.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNiyA4wOZ7QzUbiifPQQqAo-YKHazhu1mw38mBhAO-XLnjo770ggqkkr-4B8wzMaluQCD2werC-BUqpFUDus_bT4MvCqzhXm1ljc1rww9eUnWXL7BmdCopdYl-Dg7wF5Hiy5ihpyZh5Z2F/s400/Medicom_PeterParker_bk_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314069375932666642" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAYv0R9cXGIukVfUXJnERl6dsLnu_gBQvOGUpW9qpefvIFU0WzzRg6IiD2_IB8pervsQOOPUtr71BwZ6N5BoLu384O56KEZDPebo9xjyGe2dr-brByxedxF_stlZABWsaxj22fpG-LvTG3/s400/Medicom_PeterParker_bk_03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314069371763476034" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjtvTvOa1ZGAd72Np7axJp6cxHByEN1LO8lEdWNJGqLQXusA8A9hLV6bkBwfBKnrfRC8ijAM2FztZ6KIeDOxHH1S0Vrr2PGuG8eI_ZLf-oVs8DKFpoq5J18ua1AW2v44Xqa-eV4XHhXt8zP/s400/Medicom_PeterParker_bk_04.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5314069367333572898" />

So you've seen the pics. Anyone else had the misfortune of this happening? Can I do anything to fix the joint, aside from getting a new Medi body to replace it? I guess I could glue it back, and sacrifice the joint's ability to rotate. Luckily I have one loose Jack Sparrow RAH body as a back-up, and hopefully I'll be able to remove the half-Spiderman-suit that Peter is wearing under his clothes.

Medicom now gets a low score from me, although it certainly doesn't apply to everything they've done before or after the unfortunate Spiderman 3 series. They've done awesome bodies from scratch, from the Edward Elric figure to the Chun Li one released recently. Replacing those "one-of-a-kind" bodies would be next to impossible. Next time, I'll just play it safe and avoid Medi figures unless they impress the hell out of me.Mizuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08229978135801606049noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8142373698876430406.post-39225482037392252592009-03-10T08:53:00.007+08:002009-03-11T00:19:51.460+08:00The Watchman cartoon you missed out on

So the Watchman movie took decades to come into fruition.

But not the Saturday morning kid's cartoon. My latest Pure Neemo doll, Koron, came along for the trip. Enjoy photos of the odd couple. =P

Iron Man is a cool fig and an amazing way to start your figure collection (in the case of my bf). A switch carefully hidden on his back allows you to turn on the lights for his eyes and the power core on his chest, while both his arms have a tiny switch to light up the circular emitters on his palms. He's also an articulated, posable figure with several movable parts - such as flaps on his legs that open to reveal the intricate mechanisms underneath. These small moving parts feel a bit fragile though, so it's best to handle Iron Man as gently as possible.

We actually had an issue with a tiny missing hinge on one of the flaps on Iron Man's back right after taking him out from the box, but a trip back to my favourite toy store got us a replacement. Thanks so much guys. ^_^

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2q36bzNYFkXZMb_tU-SQDIt5BZVk5zMR7e084APtGy-vdaUbWJpKRPWb4lOK3jSYKp7mq1UxARFSjQJrYX-KSrn-lqL9Tnibt0NKcqUZ0BqmB-gCImd6BSLSY-tKgShRQXL2zXdh0wN3A/s400/HT_Iron_Man_PN_Koron_03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311200472057343874" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-DNdDkwTal3tH1e1cMlIFBa4GCfhF9zPb2APVHkHr5-UblPjqliqANp9LGYv-MMD6RxuOI_w3O-oXuYxwyZwMU1w_nqWcu9Wj9tCDN8T8iDDq5wtRDy2QFxB6HmiS4B2d6yTkIF0nDx3l/s400/HT_Iron_Man_PN_Koron_04.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5311200460003832530" />
Yatta!

Mizuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08229978135801606049noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8142373698876430406.post-35411898412590340122009-01-25T06:58:00.003+08:002009-01-26T02:42:01.526+08:00Happy Chinese New Year!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjiX3Cjw87E_v32lnQHCTzLZFKLxTnoIRJ0QeA2l0-PPm4338wOe9g0JWZuwJb3Gmi2zvJREThs9LKqS5ad9cCS6k0UT-Fr8uQgF6FWRSo-CfRO7Ax8yhrBq5V_rXzhUSZNTEbX0l-MbvDu/s400/PN_CNY_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294968574835937810" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgptxEFMSVB_HcR7vPgGVvEnRIg1qt8eLa1Erjn07fkTtJnlP1deZGRe4IHD-mYTA-dngIMBRIDsT9uCLYKlVivKtHG7gA_a2zD4JTPIvfoE0KZEoTqQgzZke9XKwJdiboR0SaqD6hVQjt0/s400/PN_CNY_03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294968563683520194" />

It's Chinese New Year! Happy CNY people! It's also New Year for the Koreans, Vietnamese, etc. So however you celebrate it, have a good one. I did a quick photoshoot before we visit family out of the country. An Xmas reunion didn't happen so I'm looking forward to that.

More pix after the jump.

The props used in the scene are all Chinese New Year decorations which are sold all over Singapore during the festive season. Although I think a "lion dance" costume doesn't usually come with feet, this one was originally a puppet mounted on strings.

I've never had the guts to light fireworks before (not just the round cylindrical kind but the kind that look like rockets), but when I saw how brave Tim was setting off firecrackers when he was a kid, I might give it a shot if any of my relatives have them, lol.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0kl7tL09syFx_lVEfSkZT2vhnl1kAWiISM4z34KoEt2RN-xg3qFjyRsg9mCCrkeqGJJhDFBxxeSpe8-UmkEEgykyAJ_0WYF36L162qM-aUzUiX9ukl5mAQ6pkqCk-P2rF7gE-swots5WD/s400/PN_CNY_04.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294968526327164562" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 312px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPStyw4JZhfkVywXQMrhutxz3yiIQ1vl7lKdLRruHVN0PgwwLkU6pbD29Ai7wr5sOyvW1wFeDWyBP1hHghxoT-q1M98CTIHPGOpFH9QJOAd-W06us4jACpwpvjbFS3HeqPKBTOfepYiOSj/s400/PN_CNY_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5294968571787603682" />

Addemtum: Year-end festivities put me in no mood to take photos (sadness, not alcohol abuse lol) but I've decided to include my would-be Xmas shoot in this post rather than just forget it entirely. There're a few spools of thread on the table too, so it might depend on the situation.

I found a close-up of the Coraline puppet. Question is, is it Volks' #25 Blue or #27 Deep Blue? Here's a nifty behind-the-scenes look at an upcoming stop-motion film "Coraline".

Coraline is based on a graphic novel written by Neil Gaiman, who's perhaps best known as the critically acclaimed author of The Sandman comic series. Volks doesn't provide alternate hands for grasping or posing either. I picked Volks though because it has slightly longer arms than Obitsu's 25cm body, and the hand sculpts are more realistic (longer fingers). Minor details, but I wanted to get as close to Capcom's character design as possible. ^^

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 153px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglZl6p0w-GIurUZBfXpdVFc92VdJGeg-cJ7QXCklxyyQ6jHNc9rbYygEmvHsOs8LBBMtLEojpaeBANOmCV1FlHGUlE769YPgiF6Z_Q3Ys_e3Sv2MHLlUWn4zPmseWL8rkNVezAVKsFcMZb/s400/big+ema.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5278975542139990066" />
Mizuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08229978135801606049noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8142373698876430406.post-15422193712102770402008-12-13T08:24:00.014+08:002008-12-15T18:47:21.331+08:00Review: Hot Toys Joker x 2<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1uiKTsM5-nAUozhZ5xsgiZOsQyIIAY3dHbV4ogUVrGzU2br3CwI79aLz4t3HXmGWBzwM_6_B3vCertduAJSxuA4KKYcu1qP3PcqH-pAEwQPlgXdh3RLacMyETIoEcsapL71n1x0hM_WpI/s400/PR_HotToys_Jokers_b_06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279258387583004066" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4BvFoRaFPFqXk2zCkMEURLCkSlTtismaC9R_lZ215A_KdqkMMMJ4wFU8pW-mPhrVSwcL_FjuFgvM1UfQyK7C3suRZPaMBm4zylb6xsYnu2kYEvIKqxevE80hLEsXDy9pfmWcaS6i7eVh8/s400/PR_HotToys_Jokers_b_05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279258382809402274" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3-aGRkB5IO2NxioJMTEKfgc0iOt801x1WqiCgSOOeSQ3gYYR29LyGBo-U5Q2aVF17mJv7jkYpbXPEyeCMz9GvKtke0rQDz4aD0hk8H4Xyrc5XX1aCdC4GL1meeHSy5htCbt5lR6nFE0RM/s400/PR_HotToys_Jokers_a_02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5279258552522886530" />
Ladies and gents, boys and girls, heeeeeeere's Bank Robber Joker!

Plus as an added bonus: I've included the first Joker with one of the two new headsculpts. Yulli, the talented lady behind these sculpts, did an outstanding job. Joker looks much more spot on - one head has slicked back hair so you can slip on the clown mask he wears during the bank heist, the other has the petulant, dangerous look of the Joker when he's locked up in the police station's detention cell. Crypton Future Media is a third party developer who took the Vocaloid technology, combined it with good character design and came up with a winning formula. If you've ever played Command & Conquer, you'll probably remember the shamelessly cheesy live action cutscenes. Now with 100% more star power and shameless pandering to male gamers (read: cleavage), EA hopes to get more gamers on board.

Since I've been getting into RTS again lately, I'm enjoying this game. Feel free to hit me up if you have an account for multiplayer/co-op online play. My micro's kinda rusty but I'm getting there, lol.

Full list of the actors that appear after the cut:

A list of the actors:

* Gemma Atkinson (Hollyoaks)
* Tim Curry (The Rocky Horror Picture Show)
* Andrew Divoff (LOST)
* Kelly Hu (The Scorpion King)
* Jenny McCarthy (Singled Out)
* Ivana Milicevic (Casino Royale)
* Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean)
* Autumn Reeser (The OC)
* J.K. A love story between two robots that aren't very humanoid-looking sounds risky on paper, but Pixar managed to pull it off brilliantly.

I'd like to think the strength of the movie also contributed to a healthy demand for the movie-related toys, because boy were they hard to find. I mean, sheesh, Singapore's a small country and all but we probably have more Pixar fans than Toys "R" Us gives us credit for, lol.

Michael Crawford has done excellent reviews of Cube N' Stack WALL-E and M-O, so I'll stick to reviewing Construct-O-Bot EVE.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9VayhuiUTHcWmV7c2JpqHbEavV1FXdIZIgiYoeGAHve0imYg7C-6fOxiPIyz5todqJBoBQTuJB5KZBU0Xtfb58aWolk0-BsTD8Mf16JIfVvc9Hl7MvYHVzU98W1TqgzZ1EUyxS8FiMJsz/s320/PR_Wall-E_05.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267110871385649138" />
Eeeeeeevahh!

The Construct-o-bot series basically allows you to dismantle and attach the robot parts by means of magnets. The blurb at the back of the box encourages you to buy both Construct-o-bot WALL-E and EVE, and swap their parts around like some Frankenstein-experiment. I haven't tried that yet, but there's another definite plus point to the magnetic attachments - EVE here has increased posability because the magnetic attachments act similarly to ball-joints. And no need to worry about breaking the joints from over-rotating.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHs3gdHWVqvh46TmO306MHkd_HWt0espFXSQ67rQmvx886OO5dPr844hBgXJTx6-MCoYGycPx4X39vj0I_NFhlFhRxR_Goi0GXrJ27wOc-H6HAwe3f1njViYiuyRNslIEHfMRSO3rKnwBL/s320/PR_Wall-E_06.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267114680464090434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0L1niJOsRoa66IMM1y5ne-0P1vZ6QL7AovzPLZVvmvcPf0bXe8uLmImGNRnXnPVIPp_c-PMDsrjbDbmiGoS0IDYX0W7lFeKUVeDk8MvpYUR5ostwSwTvzOVVDedfK6ezmEyMipySlyTv_/s320/PR_Wall-E_08.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267114673633595330" />
Pressing the button on EVE's back opens the front compartment, where you can stow away the boot with the plant.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg9vKxjotySS5PIrG2XulIGJIznidCxihtRapn3cG2Zecrk84j4RHKJYWMiq2xcuTegvSlGGeAO8plcQCtjhQM26KoViD55VWkZdqO1HmN2TLRk-elpvEsNT0R9bcd5meZ8keHIWU4uCKj5/s320/PR_Wall-E_07.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267114682731287858" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpuRJ13KSF64Yfg3PPwJKHI2zQ2vFeKgMJ1r3Gflv_uJsAN7PwGz2o8FSBmSnF06vv0zxiFFXndiGTvEviUTgnKIog4iDqrMrvtRTFJZd7n3lbFwyGg2W6FWF_rJXRqIrMjn-EOxHpbvVw/s320/PR_Wall-E_03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267110846715806978" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQK1kWpzXpTDs5QhIA9zG2zrqJ1JrIm1Tf5D1LA1xhxNCa3MlV_RKq1YvNpmqZF1WKvwt7AWgxVVf84tzeZg1sxclrUz0TFp7lgoyFSZeOEugPGn_VYWKJH9zutCtjm052t-j8oGqXHP0K/s320/PR_Wall-E_04.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267110864977228082" />
As you can see, looks-wise these toys are pretty spot-on. EVE is sleek, and the only downside is that her arms can't be pushed in to go completely flush against her body. Paint ops on EVE are almost negligible, although her eyes are printed very clearly. I guess you could say these toys are priced quite reasonably considering they're aimed at children, although I'm sure a number of older fans have been snapping these up. :P
Mizuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08229978135801606049noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8142373698876430406.post-51313891640873725552008-11-13T08:29:00.012+08:002008-11-15T02:22:20.284+08:00Meet the Pure Neemo gang!<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmXLQsOruzeDvjHpSqD_rS3EoIo7HAZR_Oyopi1TquiZ_0PCQHbOrilFvIArp3sWka-q5IMoLDRyIjrSGRHGljWZMHvMKoo2rlJBIAgeSh5iB13zeeUTx9qftLnwmtnZQ0qzJwxEqx1N6F/s320/PN001_Meet_the_gang_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267128604888649122" />
From left to right: Aika (black-haired 4th series version), Aika again (blonde-haired 5th series), Himeno (1st version)

Since the blokes on my blogroll have gotten 12" figures pretty much covered, I'll post about the Pure Neemo dolls in my collection. :)

They're semi-posable as they've got no joints in their elbows or knees for aesthetic reasons. I decided to create her when I found I could use Azone's clothing for most of her outfit, plus she's an interesting character!

A bit about her: Ema Skye is a 16 year old student who's into forensics and scientific investigation. She carries around a bottle of luminol which the player may use to spot hidden blood stains.

More photos after the jump.

Her badges and name tag were painted with acrylics, then "laminated" with sticky tape. For the name tag case, I cut out a small rectangular piece from some plastic I had sitting around (I keep packaging/boxes for times like this).

I've also gotten her a bag from Volks, as well as test tubes from Rement. She still needs a pair of socks, shoes and white sunglasses (does anyone have a pair with big round lens to spare?). The body I used for Ema is the 25cm midi body from Volks. Since I enjoy fussing over the details of her outfit, I'll be painting her head last. :3

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh7rRP-66z8ix5BpeO6ZofabixNFglDQYdfEPrFdudAuTbNotYDwArBuANM-fmaltjw8_O68S4VJiZev-y0H5VMjHHKUSCDMsHn81JARRCItZu7EfUs39vzE4y1nTiukkv5YZoTCoaO2hus/s320/PJ001_EmaSkye_prev02.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266240219690933522" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXniFLNcwavBMAPdPivS-mjEggeaK11iOpU5cWnNIsdUcgCemLyctK1n5PTepAGI5bLct_Xv45qkc761hk9vCQFp_ALsZBOvgf9iBjUfMIVsAY6bSZmlj04srJhwrA3rqPFXFd1kj0Q-DG/s320/PJ001_EmaSkye_prev03.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266240220024275282" />
Mizuhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08229978135801606049noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8142373698876430406.post-14236185395047614272008-11-08T18:31:00.026+08:002008-11-11T18:49:29.001+08:00Jack Twist custom figure<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikfJRwXUTef__P7Qx7EYpUNSGES9wqyMFeIXFZpZtYdc4MKlFhUJZyeksfD4EinXRcxpfCAmz5gB5OowjH5CzEU9L6QN-n0AdPlNsnfSo4nwPT_MiVnLgkRuwnULLbGzBHR5wnNz4C1VaA/s320/PR_JackTwist_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5266232904505392162" />
"Hey cowboy, why so serious?"

Yeehaw!
