Volks custom #5

Here is a Volks C head I painted over the weekend. It's another anime-esque mold, which I consider much-needed practice before I take on more realistic heads (hello, Cy Girl Midori).

She took over the EB Beauty body I used in a previous photo shoot (I hate how the arms detach so easily at the elbows when posing her). Her hair colour and outfit remind me of Heather from Silent Hill 3, so "Heather" it is. :)

Apologies to my 1/6 bros for the multiple girly doll posts. D:

I think fur-collared jackets are on their way out. Spring is fast warming up, you know. - Chris

Thanks Tim. ^^

Chris - Okay, next time you can dress them when I bring them over for a photo shoot. They're a size 1/6, k thx. :P

Thanks Kizzychan! There's still lots of room for improvement. Finer lashes would be more ideal. I'm gonna try a brand new non-Volks brush ("Ashley" brand) and see how it goes. What brushes have you found good for detail? I'm looking for alternatives. :3

Yes, more and more finer eyelashes are fine, I know, and sometimes it's a pain finding the right brushes for them. I use Volks Zoukei Mura 01 brush for tiny eyelashes, can't find a thiner one where I live, so I must order them and they cost $$$, damn... :( So I can't help you. ^^; I'd like to see 'Ashley'brand, do they've a website? Just for curiosity...

Sorry kizzychan. I googled high and low for a website but couldn't find a mention of it anywhere. :(

According to the brush, it's a size "000", under the "Ashley series A.77 Japan". A Japanese brush? That's what is printed on it, but I can't tell for sure. Except it was bought in a model kit/plastic model shop and was the finest brush they had.

I checked with Nat and she's recommended Arteje brushes which you can find online, but may require a deputy service to order from Japan.

Thanks for hints Mizu! When I'll need more tiny brushes, surely I'll try to look for the ones you named. :)

Jun - thanks, but I don't consider myself good enough to teach lol. The best advice I can offer is start with a good set of tools: fine brushes and paint (Liquitex seems the most recommended). Then the rest just involves lots of practice and patience!

As for tutorials you can check out the various websites I've linked to. Natalie (milkshake melody) has a painting tutorial, as well as Angel Plume. Have fun painting and let me see the results ne?

No worries kizzychan. As far as fine brushes go, Volks is good except they wear out pretty quick and I'm all about cost efficiency lol. These $3 Ashley brushes are working quite well so far.
