Review: BBI Cy Girl Mystere

Yesterday I received my first complete Cy Girl, and I wasn't sure what to expect. Here's what BBI printed on the back of her box:

"Cy Girl Mystere is a Stealth Operative who is highly trained in covert tactics and extended operations. Her bio suit is specifically designed to conceal her from heat seeking technology allowing her to infiltrate secure locations undetected."

Does she look stealthy to you? Maybe up to her shoulders, because her mop of blonde hair kinda stands out like a sore thumb. Perhaps she's counting on her unwavering beauty to stay the hand of any sniper who has her in his sights?

The mask fits snugly over her face, so you don't need to secure it for it to stay on, although BBI provided some string to tie on the mask. If you look closely at her headsculpt, you can see speckles of slight discolouration that makes me think of pores in her skin. Don't know if it's on purpose though!

The strength of this figure is probably the clothing (i.e. latex cat suit, corset, and what resembles fetish latex underwear). "Stealth Operative" explanation aside, Mystere's ensemble looks more like BDSM, but I'm sure the boys won't be complaining. BBI ought to have ditched the gun and shipped her with a whip, because it makes more sense at this point.

Mystere's arsenal consists of 2 weapons: an MP7 and a wicked-looking dagger. I hope I assembled her weapon properly, since there aren't any instructions or pictures to refer to. It has a detachable scope, flashlight, muzzle, and comes with 4 ammo clips, 2 of which are attachable to the MP7. I'm not a gun person, let me know if I'm mistaken. ^^;

Among the drawbacks: boots are molded plastic instead of sewn. And her gun doesn't seem to fit properly into either hand. (BBI didn't provide any additional hands either.) Box art shows her posing mysteriously with a strange triangular object hanging off a very long chain. What the heck is that supposed to be? She also comes with a tiny skull ornament you can hook on to her outfit. Maybe it's a good-luck charm.

Posability is good, although the latex catsuit restricts things somewhat. I couldn't test to see if she could do a split without ruining her catsuit, so this is one figure you'll probably leave in a standing position for fear of spoiling her outfit.

Thanks for the review, hope you've recovered from your cold today. You really won't want to go wild with posing her as the material's asking to be torn. Please figure out a way to store her properly as well. My CY Girl's pleather costumes disintegrated after five years. Sad.

Ugh.. I'm guessing it's the moisture and heat from our weather. Perhaps we should store at-risk figures in an airtight container with many satchets of silica gel (reminds me when my fam still used floppy disks). I worry the most about Takara Bats' suit disintegrating over the years.

Thanks Shaun. I'm getting better. :)

full pvc, kinky ....

yes all this pvc / rubber disintegrates either over months or years .... some say u gotta "play with it" once in awhile, sorta like stretch the material alittle but not leave it posed for too long. not sure if silica gel + storage helps ....

Thanks Sket, I'll try bending the joints now and then, see if that helps..

But I'm thinking, if it's going to disintegrate I might as well make lemonade from lemons. I'll take photos of the figure every 2 months and see if any disintegration is noticeable. Who knows, I might have an interesting sequence of photos in a couple of years. :P

Hi Mizu
How are you ? Have not seen you at the flea market lately. I have been very bizzy lately but I am at the flea market almost every Sunday.
Hope to catch you soon.
Cheers
Vinny

Hey Vincent! I'm ok, thanks for asking. I don't go to the flea market every Sunday, but when I do I'll stop by for sure. :)

I know its kinda late and all. But I managed to find a loose outfit for my gal and its tough getting her into it, even though she's a perfect body hybrid (I think she might need to loose some weight lol).

Couldn't find her boots though

Iwaaaa.. long time no see. Next time you hit CSC lemme know! We girls need to stick together in the sea of guys, right? XD -overbearing mode off-

Interesting, I haven't tried the PB bodies yet. But I assumed they had pretty much the same proportion. Getting a wee bit tired of the teensy weensy hands and feet on Japanese dolls. A different aesthetic, that's for sure. If you still need the boots, I think feeBay is the best bet!

Pretty much hit CSC on a weekly basis. My weekly walkies after being stuck in the office 5 days straight.

PBs are kinda nice. good for making slim males and Neo gohs into big girls :D

Slim males? Do you remove the chest plate for that?

I haven't done so, but I've noted a number of artists use the Neo Go 3 head for females. They look really look if you de-emphasize the jawline.

I'll let you know when I'm going, because I only visit CSC on occasion, and not always on Sundays. Crowds aren't really my thing, heheh.

This type of materials need to be stretched once in a while. I once bought several meters of such material, thinking of sewing my own CY girls clothings but it turns sticky after several months left in the store room. Humidity sucks...

Actually it involved plonking a slim male head or neo goh head onto a PB body.

Using slim male body to become PB.... pumping too much steroids loh

On the whole if you can paint bishie male you sure can do androgynous gal. since its looks similiar enough to me lol

12 inch - It turned sticky? Yikes. o_O
My sister has that fake leather material in her closet (she's into cosplay). I don't think hers has ever melted though. But I agree, humidity sucks - we've got some plushies with certain areas that have shiny paint over cloth material, those tend to peel.

Iwa - They look pretty, hehe. I always get the feeling it's easier painting Neo Go 3 heads female rather than male.
